Muir

April was an exciting month to be a Scout, and especially to be an Arrowman. The NorCal Jamboree was amazing, and I know I’ll never forget it. Ut-In Sélica Lodge held a Fellowship / Lodge Banquet at the newly renovated Camp Herms, and here in the Muir District, our Campfire / Call-Out was a great success.

But we are hosting the June Ordeal at Wolfeboro, and we we still need lots of help. Our Ceremonies team has been working hard on their costumes and memorizing their lines. We are in dire need of adults and youth to serve as Elangomats and help in the kitchen. We need adults who can take charge of the kitchen or serve as advisers for ceremonies and Elangomats.

If you would like to participate in some brotherhood and cheerful service, please join us at our next Apanuc meeting, this Thursday, May 6th at 7:00 pm, at the LDS Church on Denkinger Road. I’ll bring the pizza.

Wek-Wek’s regular Apanuc meeting is this Thursday, September 3rd at 7:00 at the LDS Church on Denkinger.  We have lots to discuss.

Conclave is coming soon (September 18-20), and Ut-In Selica  is the Host Lodge.  Section W-3N will be buying T-Shirts for the host Lodge.

Also at Conclave, WhereToGoCamping.info will, for the first time, be soliciting camping information information from people outside our own Apanuc.  We need to be ready.

AND, less than a month after Conclave,  Wek-Wek is hosting the Lodge Banquet.

I was very proud of the Arrowmen from Wek-Wek, this weekend at the Muir District Camporee at Camp Tamarancho.  The Scouts planned and ran the Tomahawk throw and the Call-out at Campfire, and both events went exceptionally well.

The Tomahawk throw was very popular with Scouts, Scouters, and other family members.  Troop 1994 took first place honors for the event, but many Scouts, including Webelos, were able to stick the tomahawk into the target.  John Rivers was the first to score in the morning, and then continued to to show everyone how it was supposed to be done.  Our Chief, Julian Houghtby was the only Scout to get a threefer, while Dan Smith was the only Leader to get a 3 for 3 round.  One target didn’t make it to the end of the day, but all of the participants did.

During Saturday night’s campfire,  Wek-Wek conducted a moving Flag retirement ceremony.  Then, we held a Call-Out for 22 new Muir District candidates.  The candidates were led to our tipi to join the Arrowmen for a fellowship.  And even though the weather was colder than the ice cream, everyone seemed to enjoy the root beer floats.
